About

My name is Iwan Andrey.
I saw the light of the bicycle world the first time on February 27, 1964.
At that time I was not yet riding a bicycle however…but that was coming soon. More about it later.
I have always loved to travel and I am a cosmopolitan person.
Thanks to a nine-month language stay in England I speak fluently English and as a native of the bilingual Swiss City Biel / Bienne the German and French language as well. In 1993 we went on a world trip for a whole year and also later we were often on the road as a family of four in Asia, Africa, USA, Central and South America. At that time not yet on two wheels, but this wealth of experience is always helpful on my tours.
Since the year 2018, it is a combination of CYCLING and TRAVELING!
These are the two passions that do not let me go from touring. This is where I really get into the FLOW…. and these experiences I want to share from now on with all interested at least DIGITAL. ☺
A life as a bike nomad is simply fantastic!
Until now, however time is limited on stages of 2 – 8 weeks per year, because I want to be in working life until further notice, even if I am already active for over 40 years in the field of insurance/pension/assets.
With stages, I see the advantage that one perceives the respective experiences maybe more intensively and it offers the possibility to prepare for the routes more specifically.
Yes, and it’s also not that easy…to be on the road for two, three, or even more years at a stretch and to be able to feed through with „influencing“ ☺. Anyway, I’m not on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, but now I have my own homepage and I’m looking forward to your visit and your questions, comments, feedback, and more.

How it all began
The first small tours on 2 wheels I was allowed to do with the scooter and my childhood friend René. Later there were already longer tours with the Minivelo. Often we visited my grandmother in Interlaken from Bern, there we had a fine lunch. One day I really wanted a racing bike. I was able to afford it at the age of 14 and immediately started training diligently. So I managed in one day the cycling tour around Lake Constance with over 220KM. It was already at that time this FLOW, which drove me and motivated me again and again into the pedals to step. My joy in cycling was so great that I spent all my free time on the steel donkey and so it happened that I joined the cycling club Olympia Biel.
I was promoted accordingly to road team four and became junior Swiss champion in 1982. After 7 years of top sport, however, it was the end. The realization that I would not quite make it to the top of the world in professional cycling was hard but a fact. But looking back, it is much more important for me that I have not lost my enthusiasm for cycling until today.
I also spent my military time on the two-wheeler. Because at that time there was still the cyclist troop. When we were on the road fully equipped, we easily brought together the weight that I carry today with my touring bike.
The military bike had only one gear and uphill it had to be pushed up most of the time. That’s why shifts were also called „bicycle marches“.
During relocations and maneuvers, we also sometimes covered over 200 kilometers in one day/night. We were on the road so long back then that there were some cyclists who fell asleep while pedaling…. of course only briefly. Also, there were even military bike races at the time. Legendary was the route from St. Gallen to Zurich, which I have completed several times competitively, over a thousand riders were at the start at that time.
Then came the time with the mountain bike. With it, I experienced Cyprus, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma and again and again longer tours with overnight stays in the wilderness. Also, the multi-day route GTJ and in Switzerland the mountain bike route 1 from Scoul to Aigle with 24900 HDM as well as the route 3, which led me through the Jura, remains an unforgettable adventure for me to this day. On the road bike, in 2017 I was a finisher at the Gurnigel triple and at the Alpenbrevet with the Platinum Tour.
Traditionally, I have participated in the Seeland Classic for years. In winter or when it rains, I can often be found with the track bike (no gears / no brakes) on the Velodrome in Grenchen. On this wooden track made of Siberian spruce there are always some athletes and in a fast group 100 kilometers are quickly done!
I had and HAVE a dream....
In 2018, the time had come. As a result of a job change, I was able to take 3 months off at a stretch and thought: why not start now, with my dream „to travel the Silk Route by bike“? Now is an opportunity to set off and cover a long stage. Thought, planned, done. I bought a Tout Terrain touring bike. And because I already own some bikes and „touring bike“ doesn’t sound as nice as CREDO, from now on I call this steel donkey CREDO.
After a month of preparation, all the touring equipment was assembled and the adventure was planned as well as possible, so I flew with bag and baggage to XI’AN. There, in the central-eastern part of China, the ancient Silk Route begins and leads along the course of the Great Wall of China towards the northwest.
Already from the first minute, the bicycle nomad life infected me and I got a full taste for it. From now on, I no longer dream „only“ of the Silk Route, but of experiencing the whole wide world by bike. But to realize this, you need one thing above all: HEALTH. I take care of it, because health is the highest GOOD! Everything else then follows and I look forward to every kilometer that lies ahead of me and am grateful for every pedal stroke that I have been allowed to cover.
I am not afraid to discover the world by bike. Nevertheless, I am always careful and respectful on the road.

If you want to build your own homepage, of course, you already have some ideas in your head… But names that spontaneously come to your mind are probably all already gone.
Then it goes on with the search and some time it is so far!
You are the first person to register this domain name and you realize:
The many considerations have been worthwhile.
Flow describes the feeling of a mental state of complete deepening/concentration and complete absorption in an activity, which happens as if by itself – in German roughly Schaffens- or Tätigkeitsrausch or also Funktionslust.
For me, it is so that something like a flow arises when riding a bicycle.
Because if you complete an estimated 80 pedal revolutions per minute, a day of touring adds up to quite a few revolutions. Often one speaks only of the driven kilometers. So if I put back exceptionally times 200 kilometers is of course already considerable … BUT when you complete about 45000 (forty-five thousand) pedal revolutions in one day, that just sounds insane. Yes, it’s insane too… I’m always impressed by this number of revolutions and what my joints are going through. And when you ride through beautiful landscapes and feel the freedom… It can go through even monotonous regions, every kilometer has its own story and that’s the fascinating thing about bike touring, you feel the flow even more intensely than with conventional cycling or bike training because there are certain unforeseen, unknown moments that you have to master. Occasionally you also feel a tingling sensation and a sense of adventure. When you reach your destination, it’s just a great feeling to get there and ride into the village…
